Scenario: We just restarted our vCenter process (via Services on Windows 2008 R2). Once restarted one of the hosts (esxi0) decided not to show any statistics. Automated DRS then began to move a bunch of VMs off to the rest of the cluster. All the VMs were in functional order. The realtime performance data had stop functioning as well on this host. What was going on?

I immediately put the host into maintenance mode to investigate.

 

I resolved the matter by: SSH to the afflicted host and restart the vpxa and hostd services

/etc/init.d/hostd restart
/etc/init.d/vpxa restart

Note:  These commands restart the management  & VC agent. 

The host was then allowed back into the cluster.
